Knowing at least a few of the songs you’re about to see at a concert is a surefire way to enhance the experience. At Lollapalooza, you’ll have an array of mini concert experiences. When you’re out in the crowd feeling an adrenalin boost during the jams you recognize, you will not regret preparing beforehand. Then again, music festivals are a great way to get into new music. Attend an unfamiliar band’s concert and you just might fall in the love with the taste they provide. Here’s a list of 10 Lollapalooza artist’s albums for affordable prices on Amazon, for you to check on before or after Lollapalooza. See you this weekend!
Vampire Weekend: Modern Vampires of the City – $9.70
Whether you’ve never heard of Vampire Weekend or you’re an avid listener, it’s probably a good idea to consider purchasing Modern Vampires of the City. The songs are simultaneously cheery and dreary, encouraging you to think a bit while you dance. When you see these guys live, it’s a guarantee they’re going to play a lot off of their most recent and popular album.
Local Natives: Hummingbird – $6.99
The Local Natives are a great band to keep up with; the soothing vocals and quick-paced instrumentals are consistently captivating. They bought a huge crowd to Lollapalooza in 2011, so give yourself a one-up on the huge crowd to come by familiarizing yourself with their second album, Hummingbird.
Beach House: Bloom – $8.79
The first time I saw Beach House live was when they opened for Grizzly Bear back in 2009. I wish I had known more of their music, because I was blown away by the mesmerizing vocals and wanted to join in the singing with the crowd around me. Their most recent album, Bloom, is a great, enticing introduction to their music and it will also help you prepare your trippy dance moves for a live performance.
Queens of the Stone Age: …Like Clockwork’ – $9.99
If you’re a Queens of the Stone Age fan, chances are you’ve given their new album …Like Clockwork a good listen. If not, I highly suggest you check it out! They bring back their heavy alternative rock sound with a looming charm to keep you immersed. Definitely worth a listen if you want to rock out at Lollapalooza.
The National: Trouble Will Find Me – $9.99
If you’re planning on seeing The National, I’d definitely look into Trouble Will Find Me. And if you’re not planning on seeing The National, well, I’d still look into it. Everyone from the Guardian to Pitchfork have given it rave reviews and I’m sure seeing it live will be an invigorating experience for everyone present.
Grizzly Bear: Yellow House – $9.99
Yellow House is filled with classic Grizzly Bear songs that are impossible to get tired of. At one moment strikingly gorgeous and the next filled with rhythmic guitar rifts, Grizzly Bear never leaves a listener bored. Fans will demand tunes off of Yellow House, so I highly encourage giving it a listen.
Tegan & Sara: Heartthrobs – $9.99
Check out this indie-due’s most recent album Heartthrobs for a fun, moving musical experience. It will work great for car rides with company, long house-cleaning sessions, and other activities that require something to keep your mind occupied and your mood upbeat. The concert at Lollapalooza will certainly have attendees on their feet and focused.
Cat Power: Sun – $10.00
Let’s be honest, I would pay $10.00 just for the album art. The faded blue base, stenciled outline of Cat Power’s face, and the pale rainbow? I’ll take two, please. But in all seriousness, the album is pure, edgy bliss. I highly recommend any indie-lover check this album out and see Cat Power live on Sunday night.
The Cure: The Cure – $9.49
The Cure’s self-titled album came out back in 2004, but they’ve been active since the 70s, so that’s pretty recent compared to their overall discography. The Cure’s work is widely available, but at this price? One cannot refuse! Familiarize yourself with some of the Cure’s lesser-known work so you can really immerse yourself into their live performance at Lollapalooza.
Hot Chip: In Our Heads – $9.99
There’s not a lot more fun than a Hot Chip show. Instead of purchasing those $10.00 socks you really need, purchase In Our Heads for a great time. Everyone needs a little synthpop in their music libraries! Heck, everyone needs a little synthpop in their lives.
